Brett is now employed seasonally!

For over 30 years, Eastern Outdoors has hired summer employees to support its busy seasonal operations. In recent years; however, finding the right candidates through traditional advertising has been increasingly difficult. Through Key Industries, the hiring process became simple, efficient, and highly successful. Catherine Horgan, Job Developer, worked closely with Eastern Outdoors to understand the workplace needs and suggested several candidates she felt would be a strong match. Her recommendations proved to be excellent.

One of those candidates was Brett Frost. With the support of job coaches and the gradual “fading” of support provided through Key Industries, Brett’s transition into the workplace was smooth and positive for everyone involved. He quickly learned what was expected of him and became a valued member of the team. Brett fit in very well and learned quickly what was expected. He is very reliable, works hard, and is pleasant to have around. We are very pleased that he wants to return this year. The experience demonstrated how strong partnerships and individualized support can create meaningful employment opportunities that benefit both employers and employees.

About Brett (Supported Job Seeker):

Brett enjoys spending time outdoors, especially camping and hiking with his family. While connected to the Community Living Centre and Working Stronger Together, he participated in the Key Industries Bridge Program. Through collaboration, Brett received support with his job search and resume development while exploring the type of work he was most interested in.

“I felt supported throughout my job search,” Brett shared.

Today, Brett works outdoors doing property maintenance tasks such as cleaning yards, piling wood, clearing trees and bushes, and even cleaning kayaks. He especially enjoys being outside and working in a hands-on environment.

Brett says one of the things he appreciates most about his job is the welcoming atmosphere. Business owner Sarah Vlug made him feel comfortable and valued from the beginning. He enjoyed working closely with Sara, often piling wood while she split it, and says he likes being part of a smaller company where everyone works together.
